In-person payments

In-person payments let any driver pay at the charger by tapping a card or phone, with no app download or registration required. Payment happens on a terminal at the point of charging, over one of several integration approaches. There are multiple ways of integrating in-person payments in a compliant and user-friendly manner. Spirii supports the approaches we believe are the most relevant and provide the best experience for Drivers and CPOs.

Spirii’s own POS interface

Spirii provides the hardware, the point-of-sale software, and optionally the acquiring — as a complete, managed offering or in combination with your own setup. Spirii’s in-person payment solution is built around the Payter Apollo terminal. It connects to Spirii’s platform over the Spirii POS application and integrates with the charger over OCPP, so the terminal and charger work together — including the ability for a driver to stop a session directly from the terminal screen.

Stop from terminal

Drivers can stop a session directly from the Spirii POS terminal screen. This is useful when a driver has no phone or wants a physical confirmation — the terminal sends the stop command to the charger over the OCPP link.

Onboarding

Setting up a terminal requires:

1. Hardware: purchase or receive the Payter Apollo unit
2. Acquiring: Spirii requests a Merchant ID (MID) from the PSP for each location (turnkey), or you provide your own MID (PAAS)
3. Registration: the terminal is registered with Payter (either via Spirii Connect or the Payter portal)
4. Configuration: the terminal is linked to the charge box(es) in Spirii Connect
5. Pre-auth amount: Spirii or you set the pre-authorisation hold amount for your location type

Charger manufacturer POS interfaces

Spirii integrates with a range of charger manufacturers, effectively making Spirii the POS back-office and the driver-facing experience managed by the OEM. This setup is useful when a local integration between charger and payment terminal is desired, or a specific payment terminal supported by the OEM is used. In this setup, the CPO manages payment terminals, locations, chargers and tariffs in the Spirii Platform. Spirii communicates the information with the charger via OCPP. The OEM is responsible for AFIR / Eichrecht compliance.

3rd party POS interfaces over OCPI

Spirii also integrates with 3rd party providers over OCPI. These are cloud-based solutions that are self-contained, normally developed by payment providers. In this setup, the CPO manages payment terminals, locations, chargers and tariffs in the Spirii Platform. Spirii communicates the information with the 3rd party via OCPI, which is also used for starting / stopping charging sessions. The 3rd party POS provider is responsible for AFIR / Eichrecht compliance.
